How to import your server from other providers to Serverwave

Switching to Serverwave is quick and easy — you can migrate your existing game server from another host in just a few steps. This guide will walk you through how to transfer your files and get your server up and running on Serverwave.

What You’ll Need

Before starting, make sure you have:

  • Access to your old host’s files (usually via SFTP or File Manager)
  • A new Serverwave server created and running
  • An SFTP client (like FileZilla or WinSCP)

If you don't know how to use SFTP, check out our guide on how to use SFTP

Step 1: Download Your Server Files

  1. Log in to your previous hosting provider’s panel.
  2. Locate your SFTP or File Manager.
  3. Download your entire server folder — including:
    • world or save folders
    • Configuration files (e.g., server.properties, settings.json)
    • Plugin or mod folders (e.g., /plugins or /mods)
  1. Save these files somewhere easy to find on your computer.

Step 2: Upload Your Files to Serverwave

Now it’s time to upload those files to your new server.

  1. Open your SFTP client.
  2. Connect to your Serverwave server using your SFTP details (found in the Control Panel).
  3. Navigate to your server directory
  4. Upload your previously downloaded files into this folder.
  5. Make sure your .jar file is called server.jar

Step 3: Verify and Start Your Server

  1. Once your files have finished uploading, return to the Serverwave Control Panel.
  2. Check if the correct java version is selected in the header.
  3. Click Start to launch your server.
  4. Monitor the console for any missing files or plugin errors.

Troubleshooting

❌ “Missing world or mod files”

  • Double-check that you uploaded the correct folders to the right directory.
  • Ensure that file names and extensions match your old setup exactly.

💡 “Server fails to start”

  • Verify that your startup command and Java version match your old server.
  • Make sure your .jar file is called server.jar.
  • If you’re using mods or custom jars, make sure dependencies are uploaded too.

⏳ “Upload takes too long”

  • Compress your files into a .zip before transferring — it can speed up the upload process.
  • Avoid transferring while the server is running.

Pro Tips

  • Always back up your old files before transferring.
  • If switching Minecraft versions, make sure your world and mods are compatible.
  • You can use SFTP anytime to update or replace files later.
